The Department of Emergency Management is
the "gatekeeper" for local NIXLE messages.
Agencies using NIXLE include the Jefferson County Sheriff's
Office, Port Townsend Police Department, and County and City
government. NIXLE will also be used to relay important information
from other emergency response agencies as needed, such as local fire

TYPICAL MESSAGE CONTENT
Urgent information; significant
in-progress events; the highest priority; ALERT level will be used for
emergencies requiring immediate attention.
Important information where vigilance
and awareness are necessary; does not have the immediate importance or
time sensitivity of an ALERT; may include major road closures.
Messages of general community or
neighborhood interest; not news releases that can be circulated by
routine means; lowest priority; "other" notices.
Along with the NIXLE message on your cell phone you will receive a link to the
NIXLE web site with the full text of the message. You will also
receive NIXLE messages at your email address.
